Let me start with what this is and isn't. Acupuncture for IVF isn't a fertility treatment in its own right, and it doesn't replace the care of your clinic or consultant. What Traditional Chinese Medicine offers is a companion to that medical process: a way to support your general wellbeing, calm the nervous system, and help you arrive at each stage feeling more grounded than frantic. I always work with your IVF team, never around them.
How Chinese medicine works alongside IVF
TCM takes a whole-body view. It pays attention to the flow of vital energy and how that connects to the reproductive system, and it uses acupuncture together with simple nutrition and lifestyle guidance to support balance through the cycle. Think of the diagram below as the shape of it: your medical IVF pathway down the middle, with gentle TCM support running alongside at each step rather than cutting across it.
What this looks like in practice
Rather than point to one person's story, let me describe the pattern I see most often, because it repeats. Someone arrives having already been through a round or two, carrying a lot of anxiety and not much hope left in the tank. We don't touch the medical side of their IVF at all. What we do is give the nervous system somewhere to land: regular acupuncture through the cycle, a few gentle changes to nutrition and daily rhythm, and honest conversation. I'll often suggest a partner comes in too, since it's rarely one person's journey alone.
What tends to shift first isn't a test result, it's the feeling. People describe arriving at their next stage calmer, sleeping a little better, less braced for bad news. I'm careful never to promise an outcome, because I can't and no one honestly can. But feeling less alone and less frightened going into IVF is worth something on its own, and many patients tell me it's the part that got them through.
Why I work with your IVF team, not around it
This matters enough to say plainly. Chinese medicine belongs beside modern fertility medicine, not in competition with it. The couples I've supported did their IVF with excellent clinics and consultants, and my role was the quieter one running in parallel, tending to stress, sleep, circulation and morale while the medical work did its job. When the two fit together well, people simply cope better, and coping better through IVF is no small thing.
If you're going through IVF in Manchester
If you're preparing for IVF, or already in the middle of it, and you'd like some steady support alongside your medical care, I'd be glad to talk. There's no pressure and no overselling, just an honest conversation about whether acupuncture and Chinese medicine might help you feel more like yourself through the process. You can read more about my background or the full treatments I offer first.
