Holistic thyroid support in Manchester

A holistic approach to hypothyroidism with acupuncture and auriculotherapy

As a naturopath specialising in acupuncture, I've seen how much difference gentle, holistic support can make for people living with hypothyroidism. It doesn't replace your medical care, and it isn't meant to. What it can do is help you feel more like yourself while your treatment does its work.

Let me be clear from the start, because it matters with hypothyroidism. This is a diagnosed medical condition, and the treatments here are a complement to the care your GP or endocrinologist provides, not a substitute for it or for any medication you've been prescribed. Nothing on this page should replace medical advice. What acupuncture and auriculotherapy can offer is gentle support for how you feel day to day, alongside that essential care.

What hypothyroidism can feel like

Because the thyroid touches so much of how the body runs, an underactive one tends to show up in a scattered handful of ways. In my practice, people often arrive tired no matter how much they sleep, gaining weight without an obvious reason, and feeling cold when everyone around them is comfortable. Dry skin, thinning hair and sluggish digestion are common too. Hover over the symptoms below to see how widely it spreads.

One small gland, a wide reach. This is why hypothyroidism can feel like several problems at once.

It isn't only physical

Hypothyroidism reaches into mood and mind as well. Clients often tell me they feel low, find it hard to concentrate, or feel unexpectedly anxious and on edge. It can unsettle menstrual cycles and leave muscles aching too. When someone is carrying all of that at once, even small relief in how they feel can matter a great deal.

A holistic approach to hypothyroidism

Alongside your medical treatment, I take a holistic approach that brings naturopathy together with acupuncture and auriculotherapy. Acupuncture places very fine needles at specific points to encourage the body's own healing and help energy move more freely. In my experience, that tends to lift overall wellbeing, easing some of the tiredness and heaviness that come with an underactive thyroid, rather than acting on the gland itself.

Where auriculotherapy comes in

Auriculotherapy works with specific points on the ear. Using ear seeds or gentle stimulation at points linked to the thyroid, I've found it can help take the edge off symptoms like restlessness and fatigue between sessions. It's a small, low-key addition, but many clients like that they can carry a little of the treatment home with them.

Support that works with your medical care

The whole point is partnership, not replacement. Keep taking your prescribed medication, keep your blood tests and reviews, and let these natural therapies sit alongside as support for your energy, mood and general wellbeing. That combination, in my experience, is where people with hypothyroidism tend to feel the steadiest.
